Responding to comments in the Telegraph by David Lidlington, the Minister for the Cabinet Office, an SNP spokesperson said:

“The SNP are not opposed in principle to common frameworks after Brexit, where they are in Scotland’s interests.

“But on areas of devolved competence, it must be for the Scottish Parliament to decide how those powers are exercised. Any attempt to undermine that fundamental principle is an attempt to undermine the devolution settlement itself – and we will not accept any power grab.

“The people risking damage to the UK economy are the Tory hardliners determined to pursue a hard Brexit – when even their own analysis shows that leaving the single market will be devastating for jobs and investment.

“It is time for Theresa May to put the interests of Scotland and the UK before internal Tory squabbles – and commit to staying in the single market and customs union.”
