Speaking ahead of Rally for Europe, a presentation and discussion taking place in Edinburgh tomorrow (Saturday) on how to win a second EU referendum, Scotland’s Brexit Secretary Michael Russell said:

“We’re deep in the mire of the most serious political crisis facing the UK for as long as many can remember, and day by day we edge closer to the disaster of Brexit.
“It is now time, in the interests of all our futures, to show political leadership, to stop the Brexit clock, to extend Article 50 and to allow another referendum on EU membership, with Remain as an option on the ballot paper.
“With her deal defeated by a thumping majority in the Commons, the Prime Minister needs to start listening and thinking seriously about where compromise and accord can be found.
“In Scotland, at least, Brexit has not had the dividing effect that we’ve seen at Westminster. In fact, over the past two and half years Scotland has become more united than ever in support for our continuing place in Europe, and against the damage that Brexit will inflict.
“Sadly what became apparent this week is that the UK government remains immune to sense and reason. But they need to face reality.
“Tinkering around the edges of their deal is a doomed strategy, No Deal brinkmanship is reckless, and leaving that option on the table with just over 60 days until we’re due to leave the EU is unconscionable.
“We face the political challenge of our times, and we mustn’t allow the Brexiteer Tories to run down the clock and drag us all into economic ruin.”

Re-elect Brendan O'Hara to represent Argyll & Bute

Re-elect Brendan O'Hara for Argyll & Bute on December 12th

In this General Election, we have the perfect opportunity to start shaping a new future for Scotland as an independent nation, within the European Union.

Like every other part of Scotland, Argyll & Bute voted overwhelmingly to remain in the European Union and that is a message I have delivered time and again to the Tories in Westminster. Yet despite the economic disaster that leaving the EU will mean for Argyll & Bute, Boris Johnson’s Tories are still determined to drag us out of Europe against our will.

An SNP victory here will tell Mr. Johnson that we reject his Tory hard-Brexit plan and that we are taking control of our own future.

Only with your financial help, however, can we ensure that every person behind every door in every town, in every village and on every island across this vast constituency gets to hear that positive SNP message of a new future for Scotland.

So please, give what you can. Any donation however small or large will make a real difference and help us secure a decisive win in Argyll & Bute and return Brendan to Westminster, to continue fighting for the people of Argyll & Bute and start building that new Scotland.

Thank you
