SNP WELCOMES HES REDUNDANCY PAY-OUTS

Alex Neil MSP and Neil Gray MP have welcomed news that the Insolvency Service is to pay statutory redundancy to former Healthcare Environmental Services workers.

There had been considerable uncertainty as to whether the workers, who have not received any money since their November pay, would be able to get a pay-out. Meantime, some workers have had to depend on foodbanks and sell Christmas presents to free up much-needed cash.

Mr Neil and Mr Gray asked the Scottish Government to intervene to get certainty and speed from the Insolvency Service, and continue to press for workers to receive December wages in full.

Commenting Airdrie and Shotts MP Neil Gray said:

“This is probably the first bit of good news the workers have received since the company ceased trading.

“It’s an extremely welcome for my constituents some of whom have been really struggling, so I am grateful to the Scottish Government for assisting us in pressing for this to happen.

“Alex and I will keep the pressure on to get the workers the wages they are due.”

Local MSP Alex Neil said:

“This is good news. But we still have more to do to get the workers the money they are owed for their December wages, as well as holiday pay and overtime payments which are still due.

“Neil and I have made it clear that waiting six months to get to an Employment Tribunal isn’t good enough.

“The workers must get paid urgently, especially given there is more than enough money in the bank to cover all the wages due.”
