Richard Leonard has been challenged to oppose Tory tax cuts for the rich – after John McDonnell said that Labour would support the giveaway.

Analysis by the Resolution Foundation has shown that tax changes unveiled by Philip Hammond will overwhelmingly benefit the wealthiest – with the richest 10% being handed an average tax cut of £379 a year.
Despite this, Labour have confirmed they would support the regressive plans.
Commenting, SNP MSP George Adam said:
“It beggars belief that, in a time of continued austerity, the Labour party are backing a Tory handout to the wealthiest people in society.
“Slashing tax for high earners is a political choice – just as it’s a political choice to pass on the burden of austerity to the poorest.
“Labour voters will be so disappointed that Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell are lining up to endorse right-wing, trickle-down economics.
“If Richard Leonard expects to have any credibility he should come out and strongly oppose this Tory tax cut for the rich.”
