SNP MPs have demanded that the UK government "pay up" the £54.5million it has short-changed Scotland in NHS funding - after the Tory Budget failed to deliver the full health consequentials that the Scottish Government had been promised.

SNP Health spokesperson, and a former consultant breast surgeon, Dr Philippa Whitford MP warned the Tories' damaging obsession with austerity cuts must not be allowed to take money away from Scotland's health service.

In the House of Commons Chamber today, Kirsty Blackman and Brendan O'Hara were among the SNP MPs demanding the Tory government pay up. While in Holyrood, Scottish Government Health Secretary Jeane Freeman MSP gave a statement on the impact of the shortfall.

Commenting, Dr Philippa Whitford MP said:

"The UK government must pay up the £54.5million it has short-changed Scotland's NHS in its austerity Budget.

"The Tories' damaging obsession with cuts must not be allowed to take vital money away from our Scottish health service - to the detriment of patients across Scotland.

"Under the current proposal, Scotland would lose out on over £270million over the five year period - funding that could be invested in front-line staff, medical equipment and facilities.

"The SNP government is committed to channelling every single penny of health consequentials to Scotland’s health service, has already ensured recording funding and spends more per head on health and social care than any other UK nation. Now the Tories must deliver the funds that Scotland is due."
