SNP MP Kirsty Blackman has invited the UK Chancellor to visit a food bank to ‘see the real effect of austerity’.

The party’s economy spokesperson at Westminster posed the challenge during Treasury Questions in the House of Commons this morning.

Commenting, Kirsty Blackman MP said:

“Whilst the Chancellor is happy to stand up in the Commons and accept invitations to visit local pubs, I invite him to visit one of the many food banks across Scotland to see the real effects of his Government’s austerity”.

"Work is not paying under the Tories at Westminster as families are being forced to use credit to pay for essential items. Some food banks, like CFINE in my own constituency, are calling for emergency resources as their shelves are empty.

“The decisions taken by the UK Government are crippling families across Scotland and that fault lies with the Chancellor.

“It is time for the Treasury to take responsibility for their actions and call an end to their cruel austerity agenda.”
