SNP MSP George Adam has demanded that Ruth Davidson disowns her Justice spokesperson Liam Kerr's comments that drink-drivers should not be pursued.

Following the latest Police Scotland figures showing that 17 out of 4,500 road users tested were found to be between the old and new alcohol limit in Scotland, a Scottish Tory spokesperson told the Mail that the police should be focused on reckless drinkers, not those who are an easy target.

Tory Justice Spokesperson Liam Kerr also said: "These figures show the attention of law-makers and the police should be on those at the serious end of the scale. Anything which reduces the chances of someone drink-driving should be welcomed. But it's clear far too many still drink considerably over even the old limit, and they're the ones who pose the most risk."
These comments appear to be at odds with the Scottish Tories’ previous position when they supported the Scottish Government’s moves to reduce the drink driving limit from 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood to 50mg – with an automatic 12 month driving ban for those caught.
SNP MSP George Adam said:
“This is shocking, even for Scottish Tories – they voted to lower the drink-drive limit in the Scottish Parliament and now they’re attacking it.
“The Scottish Tories' spokesperson is suggesting that those caught as a result of the new limit are 'easy targets' and shouldn’t be pursued. That is incredibly irresponsible – Ruth Davidson needs to make clear whether she agrees with this stance, or slap down her justice spokesperson.
“The principle purpose behind the change to the drink-driving limit was to make the roads in Scotland safer – and the Scottish Tories need to make clear whether or not that is something they support.”
