The Prime Minister’s latest Brexit lecture offered us no further details on how to avoid a catastrophic No Deal Brexit, making it clear that the Tory government is preparing to take us over the cliff-edge, the SNP has said

The Scottish Government has consistently argued for a sensible compromise proposal of single market and customs union membership after Brexit – which would protect jobs and living standards across the UK – yet the Tories continue to refuse any sensible Brexit proposals.

The SNP has also said that if Northern Ireland receives a special deal, then Scotland must not be put at a competitive disadvantage and be offered any benefits being lined up for Northern Ireland.

Commenting, SNP MP Stephen Gethins MP, said:

“Today’s speech in Belfast from the Prime Minister was yet another lecture outlining the many problems we are facing, without providing any solutions on the single market or on the customs union.

“It is clearer than ever that the Tories are preparing to take us over the cliff-edge in a catastrophic No Deal Brexit – which would be nothing short of disaster for jobs and industries in Scotland and across the UK.

“The SNP has long been calling for sensible, compromise proposals of single market and customs union membership after Brexit – which would protect jobs and living standards here in Scotland and across the UK.

“The people of Scotland, like Northern Ireland, voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU – so any special deal for Northern Ireland must not put Scotland at a competitive disadvantage. We cannot afford to pay twice for this Tory mess.

“That the toxic Tories would rather put jobs and living standards at risk in their dogmatic pursuit of a disastrous Brexit tells you all you need to know – they don’t care about anybody but themselves, and it’s ordinary people who will lose out.”
