Ruth Davidson is being called upon to intervene in the case of a North Ayrshire Tory councillor, reported widely in today’s press for a xenophobic attack upon SNP councillor Joy Brahim.

In a vile, hate-filled Twitter rant the Tory representative questioned Cllr Brahim’s right to participate in elected politics because she is originally from the Netherlands and not a UK citizen.
This is the second time in the space of a year Mr Ferguson has called out publicly for abuse targeted at Cllr Brahim, who has chosen to make her home in Scotland and contribute to public life as a local councillor.
Todd Ferguson’s behaviour and hate-filled online campaign has made Cllr Brahim so uncomfortable that she has recently sought to avoid undertaking joint council engagements with her abuser.
Commenting, SNP MP Patricia Gibson said:

“There is absolutely no place for these intimidating and hate-filled comments in Scottish politics, especially from an elected representative.
“This Tory councillor has displayed a pattern of vile behaviour based simply upon someone’s background, not upon the contribution they have chosen to make to public life in Scotland. That is nothing short of a disgrace.
“Anything short of the most robust disciplinary action shows Ruth Davidson is a soft touch on xenophobia – totally unable and unwilling to get a grip of these right-wingers within her own ranks.”
