New analysis shows that over a quarter of a million people have started a Modern Apprenticeship since the SNP came to office in 2007.

Analysis of new Skills Development Scotland figures shows that 27,145 people started Modern Apprenticeships in 2017/2018, surpassing the Scottish Government’s target of 27,000, bringing the total number since 2007 to 250,033.
The SNP in government has exceeded its target of supporting 25,000 Modern Apprenticeships each year since 2011/12 and fulfilled its commitment to reduce youth unemployment by 40% by 2021, four years ahead of schedule.
SNP MSP Tom Arthur said:
“The SNP is vastly increasing the apprenticeship opportunities in Scotland, with over a quarter of a million people starting a Modern Apprenticeship since we came to office in 2007, and the government on track to provide 30,000 new apprenticeships each year by 2020.
“The government’s support for modern apprenticeships in industries like the building trade is helping reduce youth unemployment in my area.
“The SNP’s record in supporting and empowering our young people is second to none, and it is absolutely vital that we can continue to attract more young people into the Modern Apprentice programme to provide the skills the economy needs now and in the future.”
