SNP Conference has this afternoon congratulated Glasgow on being shortlisted to become the base for the new Channel 4 headquarters - commending the work of SNP-led Glasgow City Council on bringing the bid forward and being successful in the first round of the process.

A Topical Resolution on the bid was passed at the SNP Conference, which called on all SNP representatives "to give any and all support they can" towards the bid that would be a major economic boost to Glasgow if successful.

Broadcaster and journalist Stuart Cosgrove is leading the bid to bring the broadcaster's new national HQ to Glasgow.

Commenting, SNP MSP Joan McAlpine said:

"Stuart Cosgrove is doing a fantastic job leading the bid to move to Channel 4's HQ to Scotland's biggest city.

“Glasgow is a vibrant city with a wealth of diversity, culture, arts and music that is already home to BBC Scotland, STV and a thriving production and creative industries sector that will all help strengthen Channel 4’s unique voice in broadcasting.

“There is no shortage of on-screen and off-screen talent and indeed untapped potential in Glasgow, where some of the broadcaster's biggest hits, like Location, Location, Location are already produced.

“As Inbetweeners’ producer Chris Young has said - this would be a game changer for the Scottish film and television industry.

"Glasgow is ready to help deliver bold content for Channel 4’s audiences."

Conference congratulates Glasgow on being shortlisted to become the new host city for Channel 4 and commends the SNP-led Glasgow City Council on their current work on their bid to bring the public-service broadcaster’s national headquarters to Scotland.

Conference asks SNP-representatives to give any and all support they can towards this project and help support Glasgow’s bid for the new Channel4 National Headquarters.
