The SNP’s Gillian Martin has challenged Ruth Davidson to make up her mind on immigration.
Just two weeks after the Scottish Tory leader called for more immigration to strengthen Scotland’s economy, Scottish Tory MP Ross Thomson is talking down a positive Scottish Government campaign celebrating the impact of migrants to Scotland.  First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has called the Tory MP's comments: "one of the most pathetic political interventions ever."
This is the same Scottish Conservative MP that was widely condemned for posting pictures of himself on social media glorifying the late dictator Saddam Hussein during a recent visit to Iraq.
The Tory Government’s plans to cut net migration to the tens of thousands is expected to cost Scotland’s economy £10 billion a year, with Brexit underpinning a growing cross-party consensus that the UK government needs to do more than simply drop their net migration targets, and instead either maintain or increase migration levels across Scotland.
Gillian Martin MSP for Aberdeenshire East:
"Like me, Ross Thomson represents the North East which has a pressing need to attract dedicated people to work in our public services. His puerile comments do not reflect my views nor those of the vast majority of people across the region.

“The We are Scotland campaign is about promoting Scotland as a welcoming and tolerant place to choose to live and work, and ensuring we never allow a harmful, divisive rhetoric to take hold – particularly at a time when the Tories’ hostile environment is resulting in staff shortages in our NHS and attempts to deport talented and valued Scots like Denzel Darku and 10 year old orphan Giorgi Kakava.

“If Ross Thompson thinks it is in any way controversial to set out an inclusive, positive advert to attract talent to Scotland, then that speaks volumes about his own attitudes, and ironically underlines the importance of this campaign to attract migrants to Scotland to support our public services and our economy.

“Ruth Davidson needs to make up her mind on immigration. The Scottish Tories' negativity about Scotland is draining, their anti-immigrant rhetoric has absolutely no place here, and their support for the Tory Government’s hostile environment, austerity and Brexit Britain is extremely damaging.

"Meanwhile, the SNP is working harder than ever to shape a better future for everyone who chooses to make Scotland their home.”
