CONNECTING SCOTLAND TO HS2 SCHEME ‘MUST BE A PRIORITY’

REPORT SHOWS NEED FOR GREATER CONNECTIVITY FOR WHOLE UK

SNP Transport spokesperson at Westminster Alan Brown MP, has welcomed a report on the need to develop better and faster train links across the UK saying ‘connecting Scotland to any HS2 scheme must be a priority’

The report from transport research group Greengauge 21 suggests that any high speed rail network in the UK must be extended to Scotland and across England for the economy of the entire UK to benefit – rather than the current proposals which are focussed on the South East of England.

Alan Brown MP commented:

‘’This report lays out clearly the arguments for extending HS2 to Scotland – and adds to the SNP’s calls that connecting Scotland to any future HS2 scheme must be a priority – with construction beginning in Scotland as well as England to give all round connectivity.

‘’A high speed connection between Glasgow, Edinburgh and the north of England must be part of any future high-speed rail network.

‘’It is now time for this government – so completely bogged down in Brexit and austerity  - to get on and deliver HS2 for Scotland as a priority.

‘’Westminster is now a parliament of minorities and it is now time for Scottish Tory MPs to step up to the mark and deliver for their constituents by getting on board, and putting pressure on their colleagues in government.’’
