SNP WRITE TO INFORMATION COMMISSIONER OVER CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA ‘CONCERNS’

‘OTHER PARTIES MUST COME CLEAN OVER LINKS TO DATA FIRMS’ – IAN BLACKFORD

The SNP has this evening written to the Information Commissioner to provide documents which call into question claims by Cambridge Analytica and SCL Elections that they are different companies.

Whilst the SNP had limited contact with Cambridge Analytica, without any explanation, the SNP was sent a non-disclosure agreement from SCL Elections. The SNP declined to sign any non-disclosure agreement.

The party also received emails from the same individual using email addresses from these two, supposedly, different companies.  On Tuesday, the privacy and ethics committee of the Parliament in Canada exposed similarly denied links between AggregateIQ and SCL Canada.

In publishing all correspondence and material held by the SNP on Cambridge Analytica (CA), the SNP called on all parties and campaign organisations – including the Conservatives, the Conservative-linked Scotland in Union, the Leave campaign and the DUP to match this level of transparency and come forward with details of their interactions and agreements with Cambridge Analytica, AggregateIQ, and SCL firms.

Commenting, SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford MP said:

“The SNP have provided all the documents and emails we received from Cambridge Analytica to the Information Commissioner.

“This includes emails from one person using email addresses at both SCL and Cambridge Analytica and a non-disclosure agreement that we refused to sign from SCL Elections, despite the fact we had not had any discussions with SCL Elections.

“To confirm again, the SNP has never worked with Cambridge Analytica, used any of its services or paid them a single penny.

“However having reviewed the limited information we had from CA we think even our brief experience with the firm will be of interest to the Information Commissioner and her investigation into data analytics.

“It’s time for other parties to face scrutiny over Cambridge Analytica’s continuing assertion to have ‘spoken with representatives of every major UK political party' and organisations like Scotland in Union’s claims that they talked to Cambridge Analytica about hacking the SNP.

“I have previously set out a number of links between the Tories and Cambridge Analytica that no one has yet answered. The PM has failed to say why AggregateIQ bosses were photographed on Downing Street. The focus now turns to unearthing the plethora of Tory ties to Cambridge Analytica, SCL Elections, and AggregateIQ."
