The SNP has said that Scotland must have the right to choose its own future after new analysis revealed that an extreme Tory Brexit could hit Scotland’s economy to the tune of £9bn and cost thousands of jobs.

The Fraser of Allander Institute warned that a “hit to GDP of this (no-deal Brexit) magnitude would equate to GDP being £9 billion lower,” adding that job losses could rise by tens of thousands.

The findings come as Boris Johnson faces a deadline this evening (11pm) to publish all no-deal documents under so-called “Operation Yellowhammer” seen by the Cabinet since July, following a vote in Parliament earlier this week.

The SNP has reiterated calls on the Tory leader to accept the votes in Parliament and take his threats of a disastrous no-deal Brexit off the table once and for all.

Stephen Gethins MP, the SNP’s Europe and Foreign Affairs spokesperson, said:

“In the same week Boris Johnson shut down Parliament in an attempt to avoid scrutiny and force through a catastrophic no-deal Brexit, the Brexit price that Scotland will be forced to pay becomes clearer and ever more threatening.

“All the evidence shows that any form of Brexit would be devastating, and the analysis by the Fraser of Allander that a no-deal exit could hit Scotland’s economy to the tune of £9bn and cost thousands of jobs makes clear that Westminster is broken and not acting in Scotland’s interests.

“Parliament has voted against an extreme Tory Brexit and it’s high time the unelected Tory Prime Minister accepted defeat and took his threat to impose a catastrophic no-deal Brexit off the table once and for all. He must also do as Parliament asked and publish the papers around no-deal. People deserve to see the evidence.

“The people of Scotland deserve the choice of a better future than the one being imposed upon us by Westminster. It’s clearer than ever that the only way to properly protect our interests is by becoming an equal and independent European country.”
