The SNP is leading the way on Carer Positive employment, with a number of politicians among the 100 employers across Scotland now signed up to the scheme.

Carer Positive awards are presented to employers in Scotland who have a working environment where carers and valued and supported – recognising the benefits to employers as well as helping individual staff and their families.
Tom Arthur, the first Scottish politician to become a Carer Positive employer, is now encouraging all MSP colleagues to complete the straightforward self-assessment process and help promote the benefits to businesses and organisations in their own constituencies.
Commenting, Tom Arthur MSP said:
“Around 270,000 in Scotland combine work and caring for others – but without the right support and understanding from employers, carers can suffer from undue pressure and exhaustion at work.
“Caring can have particular pressures which aren’t always be planned for. But being flexible in those circumstances is absolutely vital if employers want to minimise the risk of losing valued and experienced staff altogether.
“So being Carer Positive is a commitment to making life and work better for Carers, but with huge benefits to employers and the wider economy too.
“I’m keen to see MSPs from across the political spectrum take the lead in promoting the benefits in their own communities – signing up as Carer Positive employers and encouraging local businesses and organisations to do likewise.
“Scotland can be a leading example to other countries when it comes to caring for carers, making sure they are properly supported at home and at work.”
