The scourge of social isolation among old folk

It was either a very late or a particularly early Christmas visit when local MP Brendan O’Hara joined around 40 members of the Strachur Patient Participation Group for lunch at their weekly session on Thursday.

“I was all set to attend the PPG Christmas party back in December but unfortunately urgent parliamentary business got in the way, meaning I had to cancel. I did promise however that I would visit as soon as I could, so I was delighted to finally make it along to the Strathlachlan Community Centre last week to meet the group and to see for myself the fantastic work they do in keeping our elderly citizens active, engaged and healthy”.

The Strachur Patient Participation Group, whose average age in 81 years old, provides support to elderly people in the community and encourages active participation in a whole host of activities including strength and balance exercises and even Tai Chi.

Mr. O’Hara added:

“I congratulate the organisers and the volunteers who support this wonderful initiative. It really is impossible to put a price on the fantastic work being done by the Strachur PGG in reducing the scourge of social isolation among our old folk”

He concluded:

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and was heartened to hear from so many of the elderly residents of Strachur and the surrounding area about how much they benefit from and enjoy attending this group every week and parliamentary business allowing, I look forward to attending this year’s Christmas party… on time
