BLACKFORD - PM MUST PUT THE BRAKES ON BREXIT

The SNP has reiterated calls for the Article 50 Brexit process to be extended for a period long enough to enable a new referendum on EU membership to be held.

SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford MP said the extension would have to go beyond June 30 and said Brexit should be cancelled altogether this week if the UK was facing a No Deal catastrophe.

Earlier today, Ian Blackford MP addressed a People’s Vote rally in London where he reiterated SNP calls for the Prime Minister to ensure any Brexit deal is brought back to the public.

Commenting following the House of Commons debate on extension, Ian Blackford MP said:

“The UK faces the Brexit cliff edge in just three days’ time – Theresa May must stop ignoring the wishes of the people of Scotland and put the brakes on Brexit.

“The immediate priority is to avoid a No Deal catastrophe on Friday. If that is the situation we are facing then Article 50 must be revoked this week and Brexit cancelled.

“SNP MPs are standing up for Scotland, which voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU, while Westminster has descended into chaos.

“The UK Parliament has proved incapable of making a decision so if there is an extension, the issue should be put back to the people. That means extending EU membership beyond June 30 to enable a referendum with Remain on the ballot paper to be held.”
