BLACKFORD: MAY MUST TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO EXTEND ARTICLE 50

MPs MUST NOT BE BLACKMAILED INTO THIRD VOTE ON DAMAGING BREXIT DEAL

The SNP has called on the UK government to take immediate action to extend Article 50 - warning Parliament must not be blackmailed into voting on Theresa May’s damaging deal for the third time.

Following Parliament's decision to extend Article 50, and reject leaving the EU with either Theresa May's deal or no deal, Ian Blackford MP said putting the decision back to the people in a second EU referendum remained the best option.

Commenting, Ian Blackford MP said:

"Theresa May must now take immediate action to extend Article 50 and prevent the UK crashing out of the EU in two weeks time.

“The Tory Leader must finally listen, and not attempt to blackmail MPs into voting on her damaging Brexit deal for a third time.

“Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU - and we must not be dragged out against our will.

“Putting the decision back to the people in a second EU referendum, remains the best option and most democratic way forward.
“Any form of Brexit will be devastating for Scotland - causing lasting harm to jobs, living standards, public services and the economy.

"Scotland's wishes have been side-lined and ignored throughout the Brexit process, and the case for independence is now stronger than ever. If Westminster continues to fail Scotland - we will find our own way out of this mess."
