The SNP has said Labour and Tory MPs are "failing Scotland" on Brexit by voting against a second EU referendum - despite Scotland's overwhelming support for remaining in the EU.

All SNP MPs voted for a second EU referendum tonight, alongside Lib Dem, Plaid Cymru, Green, and Independent MPs. Every Tory MP voted against a referendum - including all Scottish Tory MPs. The majority of Labour MPs abstained, including four Scottish Labour MPs, while 18 voted against, and just 25 voted in favour.

SNP Deputy Westminster Leader, Kirsty Blackman MP, said Labour and the Tories had proven, once again, that they cannot be trusted to stand up for Scotland - and had abandoned their constituent's wishes and interests.

Commenting, Kirsty Blackman MP said:

"Yet again, Labour and the Tories have proven they cannot be trusted to stand up for Scotland.

"Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU - but Labour and Tory MPs have chosen to completely ignore the wishes of the people of Scotland, by voting to block a second EU referendum and drag Scotland out of the EU against our will.

"We know that any form of Brexit would be deeply damaging for Scotland - inflicting lasting harm on jobs, living standards, public services and the economy.

"Westminster is failing Scotland, and it is clearer than ever that the only way to properly protect our interests is with independence."
