The SNP has called on Scottish Secretary David Mundell to resign, after he failed to vote against a No-Deal Brexit - which could cost 100,000 Scottish jobs and plunge Scotland's economy into recession.

SNP Business spokesperson, Drew Hendry MP said David Mundell, and Scottish Tory MPs, had abandoned the wishes and interests of their constituents by voting to allow a No-Deal Brexit.

Every Scottish MP voted for the motion to rule-out a No-Deal Brexit, except David Mundell who abstained, and eleven Scottish Tories who voted against the motion - including, Andrew Bowie, Colin Clark, David Duguid, Luke Graham, Bill Grant, Kirstene Hair, Alistair Jack, Stephen Kerr, John Lamont, Douglas Ross, and Ross Thomson.

Analysis has shown any form of Brexit will be damaging for Scotland's economy. A report by the Scottish Government’s top economic adviser, published in February, revealed a No-Deal Brexit could cost 100,000 jobs in Scotland, and result in a recession worse than 2008 – causing Scotland’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to fall by up to 7%

Commenting, Drew Hendry MP said:

"David Mundell must resign - he has proved himself utterly incapable of standing up for Scotland's interests.

"Yet again, Scottish Tory MPs have abandoned the wishes and interests of their own constituents, by voting to keep a disastrous No-Deal Brexit on the table.

"Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU, and we know that any form of Brexit would be devastating for jobs, living standards, our public services and the economy.

"It is shameful that Scottish Tory MPs have voted to completely ignore the wishes of their own constituents, and enable a Brexit that could cause a recession and cost 100,000 Scottish jobs.

"While SNP MPs provided a strong voice for their constituents tonight, it is clear that the Tories simply cannot be trusted to stand up for Scotland."
