PRIME MINISTER MUST DO MORE TO SUPPORT A PEACEFUL RESOLUTION IN SYRIA

Angus Robertson MP has said the Prime Minister must join EU and NATO allies in calling on Spain to refuse the refuelling of Russian navy vessels, expected to be involved in the bombing of Aleppo.

Speaking in Prime Minister’s Questions today, the SNP Westminster Leader asked Theresa May what efforts the UK government is undertaking to support a peaceful resolution to the conflict and deal with those exacerbating the situation.

Commenting, Angus Robertson MP said:

“One of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes of our time is in Syria, specifically the city of Aleppo where a ceasefire is expected to end shortly and an onslaught begin.

“The Prime Minister must do more to support a peaceful resolution to the conflict and deal with those who are exacerbating the situation.

“It is widely expected that the onslaught on Aleppo will be supported by Russian airpower currently steaming through the Mediterranean aboard the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. In recent years more than 60 Russian navy vessels have been allowed to refuel and resupply in Spanish ports.

“The Prime Minister must join me and our EU and NATO partners in calling on Spain to refuse the refuelling.”
