MP to hold first supermarket surgery in Argll & Bute

Sometimes if you want to speak to your Member of Parliament, the village hall, community centre or library may not the best way to do this.  That is according to local MP Brendan O’Hara who will this week hold his first ever surgery in a local supermarket.

Tesco’s in Oban have agreed to host the MP’s surgery in the foyer of their store later this week for anyone who wants to meet him to discuss any issues or problems they have.
When asked what prompted the move, Mr O’Hara said
“When I was elected I pledged to be as accessible as I possibly can and believe me in this huge constituency that can be quite a challenge.  People have very busy lives and perhaps don’t have the time to take out of their day to meet me and some people still don’t even think of contacting their MP if they have a problem.  What better way to reach constituents than to set up in the local supermarket?  So, if you are in the vicinity and would like to speak to me, please do come along even if it’s just to say hello!”
He went on to say,
“I would like to take surgeries into the communities rather that expect the community to come to me. I will be holding surgeries in Aldi and Morrisons and I am currently in discussions with the Co-Op, so please look out for the adverts or contact my office in Helensburgh for details.  If people like this new approach then I will make it a regular feature in my constituency diary.”
The surgery will take place on Thursday 22nd September, Tesco foyer, Lochside St, Oban.  No appointment is necessary.
