Local MP, Brendan O'Hara, congratulates local dancers

Written by

Local MP Brendan O’Hara made sure he found time during what has been a hectic parliamentary recess to meet the Margaret Rose Highland dancers on Saturday (3, Sept) and congratulate them in person on their amazing achievements this season.

Their latest wins include the Argyllshire Championships this month where sisters Eilidh and Catriona Gammons became Champions in their age group.  Eilidh Gammons who is only 8 years old and described as ‘being born to dance’ managed to knock up 4 firsts and win overall Scottish dancer in the championship with the talented Rhiannon Charles qualifying for the World Finals.
On meeting the girls, Mr O’Hara said,

“I am delighted to meet the dancers today and have heard of their success over the years but they seem to be going from strength to strength.  Achievements like this never come without sheer hard work and determination and meeting the dancers today, I can see they have got that in spades.  They are a credit to their parents and to the Margaret Rose School of Dance and I’m sure the people of Helensburgh feel very proud of them too.”
He went on to pay tribute to the school’s founder and teacher Margaret MacInness by saying,

“Margaret has not only introduced thousands of children over the years to the joys of dancing but has opened up fantastic opportunities for young people to aspire, compete and travel the world.  I’m sure we will hear more of their achievements for many years to come.

Names left to right with Brendan O’Hara: Iona McSorley, Skye McSorley, Isla Flint, Eilidh Gammons, Catriona Gammons, Rhiannon Charles
